Erin Shumac grew up in Altoona and graduated from Penn State, University Park, with a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies. She also holds a Master of Arts in Adult and Community Education from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

As a DUS advisor, Shumac works primarily with students exploring majors. She was a first-generation college student and started her Penn State career as a DUS student. She eventually interned at Penn State in various student-focused capacities, such as academic and health and wellness interventions and disability services. After working many years in human services, Shumac went back to school as an adult learner to earn her master’s degree. She served in student affairs at Penn State Altoona and then began academic advising at Penn State World Campus. When she is not advising, Shumac loves music, creativity, animals, and spending time with her family. She also plays the cello.
