The Escort Service at Penn State Altoona was designed to enhance your safety and peace of mind if you must walk after dark. The primary goal of the Escort Service is to deter sexual harassment, verbal abuse, and assault, and to enable you to travel from one location to another with a greater sense of security.
The Escort Service is intended to be primarily a walking service with mobile escorts provided when determined to be appropriate. When calling for an escort, you should assume that you will be given a walking escort unless the dispatcher indicates otherwise. The escort will be provided to any location within a reasonable walking distance of campus. Mobile escorts ending off-campus will be granted only to the residence of the person being escorted. Both mobile and walking service generally are limited to within a one mile radius of central.
A mobile escort is not intended as an alternative to other forms of transportation, and may be denied in the following cases:
- As a regular means of transportation to or from employment.
- When two or more individuals are going to the same destination.
- If public transportation is available.
- If it is determined that an individual has provided false or misleading information to the dispatcher.
This service is provided free to all students, faculty, and staff of the University.
Call 814-949-5222 any time between dusk and dawn to arrange for an escort. It is not necessary to call in advance.
