Visiting the Center

  • Stop by the Learning Resources Center (LRC) located on the bottom floor of Eiche Library, room 125. After 7 p.m., swipe your PSU ID to enter.
  • Sign in at the front desk (located to your right as you enter)
  • Find tutoring locations and schedules for subjects including mathematics, statistics, biology, chemistry, languages, and physics.
  • Have questions? Ask Deb Miller, stationed at the front desk.
  • Go to the location for your subject and start working.
  • Ask the tutor for help whenever you need it.

Need help with a writing assignment? Stop by the Writing Commons, located across the hall from the LRC.

Code of Conduct

When working with a tutor:

  • Pay careful attention to everything the tutor is trying to tell you.
  • Remember we are here to help you acquire skills, and we cannot be effective if we do too many things for you.
  • Keep in mind that tutoring is not about watching someone else do your homework.
  • Expect the tutor to tell you just enough that you can figure things out for yourself, because that is the best way to really learn.

When not working with a tutor:

  • Try to keep your focus on understanding the course that brought you in for help.
  • Try to listen to what the tutors nearby are telling other students, since it might help you as well.
  • Read through your class notes, read your book, think about what you were told in class, and try to work through the homework yourself.
  • Try to work with other students on anything you were both having trouble with. This group learning approach can be incredibly helpful.
  • Be considerate of other students and the staff while you are visiting the LRC.

Dos and Don'ts

Do:

  • Bring your class notes, your book, and sincerely try to use them.
  • Focus on your course(s) while visiting the LRC.
  • Engage with the tutors about the content of your course.
  • Talk to other students at the designated tables who might be thinking about the same things you are struggling with.
  • Step outside if you need to take or make a call when you are not working with a tutor.

Don’t:

  • Expect tutoring to replace you going to class and reading your book.
  • Expect tutors to discuss questions beyond the content of your course.
  • Take a call, check for texts or keep listening to music when a tutor is talking to you.
  • Distract yourself or those around you using your cell phone, laptop, or making excessive noise.
