An eight-day excursion that allows students to experience service-learning by visiting the remote village of Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic. Students will be able to make lesson plans, teach English to elementary students in their home schools, and/or participate in a sustainable agricultural project. Students will also have the opportunity to explore the culture of the region and interact with the Dominican citizens.

Students will stroll through untouched national parks and experience adventures in the country’s biggest cities. The experience is an eight-day program spending time in ancient ruins and among modern locals. Travel in a train that cuts through the mountains and on vibrantly colored buses to discover four major cities, two provinces, and one Incan ruin.

This program is designed for Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology (EMET) majors at Penn State Altoona. The focus of the program is to relate the work that they have done in their design and engineering classes to the hands-on application of the automotive industry in Germany.

A seven-day excursion that allows students to experience a level of cultural submersion through service to the community. Students will be partnering with both Murals Talk (an Altoona based non-profit Art Organization) and Hope Partners, Costa Rica for a unique service opportunity. Students will work with both Altoona-based elementary students and community members leading into the trip, as well as working with students at the Pacifica Fernandez Elementary School in San Jose, Costa Rica.
