Penn State Altoona will offer several information sessions about the 2026 alternative spring break trip to Puerto Rico throughout the fall semester. This alternative spring break is an eight-day excursion in which students will experience meaningful service-learning while exploring the island’s culture and history.

Penn State Altoona will offer several information sessions in September and October about the 2027 alternative spring break trip to Puerto Rico. All sessions will be held in Room 140 of the Student Success Center, on the first floor of the Eiche Library.

  • Tuesday, Sept. 8, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.
  • Thursday, Sept. 17, from 5 to 6 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.
  • Thursday, Oct. 1, from 5 to 6 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.
  • Thursday, Oct. 15, from 5 to 6 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.
  • Thursday, Oct. 29, from 5 to 6 p.m.

The alternative spring break is an eight-day excursion in which students will experience meaningful service-learning while exploring the island’s culture and history.

Students will participate in conservation projects and a disaster relief and resiliency project in the local community. In addition, participants will work with the Boys and Girls Club, helping with homework, assisting with recreational activities and helping youth practice their English. Students will also explore El Yunque National Forest, a nature reserve, and local Puerto Rican communities.
