
NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. — Penn State Altoona student-athletes Corey Chamberlain, of Claysburg, and Jake Hillard, of State College, earned weekly awards from the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference on April 7 when the league office announced that Chamberlain was its Pitcher of the Week and Hillard was its Player of the Week.
Chamberlain and Hillard propelled the Lions to a doubleheader sweep of AMCC opponent La Roche University on the road last Tuesday, April 1.
Chamberlain made his first career start on the mound in game one of the doubleheader and pitched a complete game for his first collegiate win. The right-hander gave up just one run, five hits, and no walks while recording six strikeouts in seven innings.
Hillard went 3-for-4 at the plate in game one with a double, a home run, three runs scored, two RBI, and a stolen base, then followed that up with a 2-for-4 performance in game two with a double, three RBI, two runs scored, and a walk.
Penn State Altoona baseball is 10-14 overall with a 2-2 mark in the AMCC. The Lions head to Huntingdon, Pa., on April 10 to face non-conference opponent Juniata College in a single, nine-inning game starting at 3:30 p.m.
