Multidisciplinary Studies
THEME: List your theme, as it is shown on the Preliminary Proposal or a revised theme, if you’ve revised it since meeting with Dr. Haefner.
SUBJECTS OF FOCUS: List your three or four main subjects, as shown on the Preliminary Proposal.
Describe Your Multidisciplinary Studies Theme:
Describe briefly how each of your Subjects of Focus will help develop your theme. What specifically do you expect to learn in each subject, and how does that knowledge contribute to your Multidisciplinary Studies theme? What knowledge and skills do you expect to acquire in these subjects?
Explain how the Multidisciplinary Studies major will allow you to achieve your academic goals. How does this program allow you to accomplish those goals better than a traditional major?

Penn State Altoona requires all students who graduate from the college to take a capstone course, preferably in their senior year.
In this section of the Multidisciplinary Studies Academic Plan, you will designate one of your 400-level courses to serve as your capstone. Such classes might be special topics, independent studies, directed internships, student teaching experiences, clinical work, or traditional classes that combine a number of the items listed below.
Capstone courses should achieve the following goals:
- synthesize the learning that has been delivered in the major program;
- include a significant writing component;
- provide students with an opportunity to place themselves in a scholarly or professional context;
- provide a transition to post-graduation goals, either academic or vocational;
- ensure significant individual interaction between student and professor.
