Outside the Slep Student Center, Penn State Altoona

Penn State Altoona’s annual Ag Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, outside the Slep Student Center.

More than 30 exhibitors are expected, ranging from the Pennsylvania Game Commission to Victory Therapeutic Horsemanship and 2 C’s and a Bee Beekeepers’ Association. Several Penn State Altoona student organizations will be there, including the Ag, Biology, Horticulture, Dairy Science, and Equestrian Clubs, as well as Alpha Zeta and Delta Theta Sigma fraternities, the Blue & White Society, and the Collegiate Farm Bureau.

In addition to a petting zoo, there will be a calf feeding exhibit, and the Blair County Dairy Princess, Ellie Dilling, who is also a Penn State Altoona student, will promote the importance of dairy products and industry. There will be lawn games, a mechanical bull, and Penn State Berkey Creamery ice cream.

Students enrolled in AG 160 at Penn State Altoona are providing interactive activities on or before Ag Awareness Day. These activities include the following:

  • “Grandview Clean-up” — From noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, students, faculty, and staff are invited to participate in a cleanup of Grandview Road near campus. Volunteers will meet at noon behind the Hawthorn Building.
  • “Pot It Like It’s Hot” — Plant your own herb or flower in donated coffee mugs while supplies last.
  • “Can Crafters” — Learn about the importance of recycling aluminum cans and different ways that cans may be repurposed.
  • “Nittany Pointe Clean-up” — From 2 to 3 p.m., students, faculty, and staff are invited to join a trash clean-up at the Nittany Pointe Apartments located behind the campus.

Ag Day is sponsored by Penn State Altoona’s Ag Club.
