- Bachelor of Arts in English, Penn State Altoona
What do you currently do professionally?
Full-time homeschool mom
How has majoring in English helped you on your career pathway(s)?
When I was out in the workforce, my degree definitely put me at the top of the list when applying for jobs.
What knowledge and skills help you succeed in your job on a daily basis (and, possibly, in unanticipated ways)?
I continue to use the writing skills I developed every day of my life, and now I am passing those skills on to my children in their home education classes.
In what (unanticipated) ways has the English major impacted your life beyond your profession?
It prepared for me life as a teacher. Teaching my children was never the plan, but it has been the most rewarding thing I've ever done.
What is your favorite experience from your time in the English program?
I loved spending time with the English majors and reading wonderful books. The creative writing programs introduced me to many styles of writing and poetry that continue to influence me today.
What advice do you have for current English majors or students considering entry into the field in which you’re currently working?
While I'm not currently at work in a related field, homeschooling my 3 children has been the best decision I've ever made.
Is there anything else you would like current Penn State Altoona students (of all majors) to know?
Be fierce and be yourself always.
