ALTOONA, Pa. — Stefanie Kempton, assistant professor of communications at Penn State Altoona, has been awarded the New Faculty Research Grant from the Broadcast Education Association.

This highly competitive grant is awarded once a year to a tenure-track faculty member for the development of a research project in broadcast and electronic media.

With only a small percentage of females in television newsroom stewardship, Kempton’s project focuses on better understanding the barriers to entry for women in news leadership. She will also examine ways in which Penn State Altoona can incorporate leadership training for women journalism students.

Kempton will receive her award and a cash prize at the April BEA annual convention in Las Vegas.
