Penn State Altoona English majors present senior seminar projects

Three English majors presented their senior seminar projects on Dec. 7 as part of English 487W, the capstone course for the program.

This semester’s class was taught by Dr. Sandra Petrulionis, distinguished professor of English and American Studies, and its theme was “American Dreams, American Nightmares.”

ALTOONA, Pa. — Three Penn State Altoona English majors presented their senior seminar projects on Thursday, Dec. 7, as part of English 487W, the capstone course for the program.

This semester’s class was taught by Sandra Petrulionis, distinguished professor of English and American studies, and its theme was “American Dreams, American Nightmares.”

Aidan Pellegrino presented “The Neverending Nightmare of the American Dream: A Rhetorical Analysis of Antislavery Speech from the Early Republic to Black Lives Matter," Brian Burkhardt presented "Dead Letter Office Rendered in Glass: A Story of How Drugs Usurp the American Dream," and Ella Gable presented "The Horatio Alger Myth: The Truth Behind His Heroes.”

At the same event, new members of the Penn State Altoona chapter of the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society were inducted: Alexis Christoff, Eve Ergler, Ella Gable, Emera Gregor, Hollie Keller, Kathryn Maille, Jim Miller, Jordan Morral, Aidan Pellegrino, Rebecca Reeder and Alyssa Twigg.
