ALTOONA, Pa. — A group of Penn State Altoona elementary and early childhood education majors presented posters at the Campus and Community Sustainability Expo in State College held Thursday, Dec. 7.

Throughout this semester, the students engaged in a community-based project with the Blair County Conservation District and developed children’s activities for NatureWorks Park in Hollidaysburg. Each activity centered on a feature of the park and used a sustainability thread to tie in science, math and social studies education. This was an integrated project led by faculty members Leigh Ann Haefner, Stacy Corle, and Alex Pratt.

The students won first and third places for “People’s Choice” favorite posters.

The expo is a celebration of student projects in partnership with local governments and organizations to advance sustainability goals and provides the opportunity for students to share their projects and experiences with their peers, faculty, and community partners.
