NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. — Following a big week of goal scoring for the Lions, Penn State Altoona women’s soccer’s forward/midfielder Mallorie Smith, of Bellefonte, was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week.

Smith found the back of the net seven times in two games for Penn State Altoona last week, including a record-setting performance in Saturday’s home win.

In last Wednesday evening’s 4-1 loss on the road against non-conference opponent Penn College, Smith accounted for Penn State Altoona’s lone goal and finished the game with three shot attempts, including two shots on goal. She followed that up with a huge day in the Lions’ AMCC opener on Saturday afternoon at home, a 12-0 victory over Wells College. In that game, Smith scored six goals to set a new Penn State Altoona women’s soccer single-game goals record, while attempting 10 shots and putting eight on goal.

On the week, Smith scored seven goals for a total of 14 points while attempting 13 shots and putting 10 on target. Through eight games this season, the senior currently leads the AMCC in goals scored (8), points (16), and shots on goal (18) while ranking second in shots attempted (25).

This is Smith’s first AMCC Offensive Player of the Week award this season and the fourth of her collegiate career.

Penn State Altoona women’s soccer is 1-6-1 overall, including a 1-0 record in the AMCC. The Lions’ next game is Tuesday, Sept. 26, when the team travels to face conference foe La Roche University at 4 p.m.
