Altoona professors win gold and silver Foreword Book of the Year Awards

ALTOONA, Pa. — Erin Murphy, professor of English, and Todd Davis, professor of English and environmental studies, have been named winners in the annual Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Awards.

An anthology co-edited by Murphy received the Gold Award in the anthology category. "Bodies of Truth: Personal Narratives on Illness, Disability, and Medicine," was published by the University of Nebraska Press. Murphy edited the book with Dinty W. Moore and Renée K. Nicholson.

"Native Species," a poetry collection by Davis, received the Silver Award in the poetry category. The collection was published by Michigan State University Press and was named the winner of the inaugural Bloomsburg University Book Prize.

Foreword Reviews, a media company focusing on independently published books, sponsors the awards which recognize the best books published in 2019 from small, independent, and university presses.
