Arrival Information

Spring Semester 2018

New international students and/or US students living abroad are asked to provide their travel plans to Jerry Benito in the Office of Student Affairs at

Please include:

  • Travel dates
  • Flight information
  • Departure and arrival times
  • Locations

When making your travel plans, please remember that you will need to arrange to arrive on campus no later than Thursday, January 4, 2018, as the international New Student Orientation activities begin Friday, January 5.

For students travelling via air to the Altoona/Blair County Airport (AOO) or the University Park Airport (SCE), please note that the campus will provide limited pick up transportation from each airport on Wednesday, January 3 and Thursday, January 4. Students requesting pick up from either airport will need to register for this service by Friday, December 29, 2017.

If you are flying into either airport listed above and opt not to access the limited pick up transportation being offered by the campus, you will be responsible for your own travel to either the campus or your off-campus housing site. Private taxi service is available both in Altoona as well as State College.

Students accessing Amtrak train options from New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington D.C., etc. will need to transfer from the airport to the train station.

Students accessing Greyhound Bus options into Altoona should access the Greyhound schedule.

Please note that Penn State Altoona will also offer limited pick up transportation from the Altoona Amtrak/Greyhound Station on Wednesday, January 3 and Thursday, January 4.

Travel Suggestion

You may wish to consider purchasing an international calling card in case your personal cell phone is not working once you arrive in the United States. This would come in handy if you need to make or receive phone calls when you are at the airport or train station.

Students living in on-campus housing will be able to pick up their room keys from the Housing Office in Port-Sky Café on Thursday, January 4 between 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Students checking in after 5:00 p.m. will need to go directly to their assigned residence hall.

Students living in off-campus housing need to contact their individual landlord regarding the date they may move into their housing facility.

If you need a letter confirming your participation in the  New Student Orientation program for your off-campus landlord (if needed for early move-in), please contact the Office of Student Affairs.

Please address any questions related to your arrival at Penn State Altoona to the Office of Student Affairs at 814-949-5053 or to Jerry Benito at
