- January 2012 – Sustainability intern Daniel Morrison and Sustainability Coordinator Lisa Emili receive a Chancellor’s Development Fund (CDF) award to establish a native plant riparian buffer pilot area along Spring Run.
- March 2012 – The Penn State Altoona Sustainability Council becomes the first chartered council of the Commonwealth campuses.
- April 2012 – Sustainability Council creates Internship Program welcoming its first group of Seminar Forest interns in the summer 2012:
- Lindsay Arotin researches and proposes a cabin beautification project for the Seminar Forest.
- Karly Kubat researches and proposes a fire circle outdoor classroom structure at the welcoming area of the forest.
- Dylan Dando researches and proposes a meadow walkway connecting the campus side of Juniata Gap Road to a proposed school bus turnaround.
