Welcome to Family Weekend! If you missed it on Friday, this is your first stop. Pick up your family weekend registration items, updated schedule, and complimentary spirit pack. Family Weekend shirts will be available while supplies last! Limit three per student ID.
We are also collect non-perishable food items for Ivyside Eats, the campus food pantry. Popular items include cereal, macaroni and cheese, Chef Boyardee, and other quick meals. Monetary donations are also accepted.
A Morning with Henry Thoreau

Meet at the Nittany Lion Shrine outside the Slep Student Center
Join Penn State Altoona English faculty members Jeannette Lang, Sandy Petrulionis, Jeffery Stoyanoff, and Patricia JabbehWesley for a brief talk about our English program at the site of our student-built replica of Thoreau's Walden Pond cabin. An optional short hike in the Seminar Forest will follow.
Note: This event will be moved to room 104 of the Adler Athletic Complex in the event of inclement weather.
Family Weekend Carnival
Noon–4:00 p.m. outside the Slep Student Center
Enjoy the beauty of our campus while having fun with your favorite people. Activities include the following:
- Experience the Zip Line and Ninja Warrior Obstacle Course
- Play some of your favorite carnival and lawn games
- Meet our talented faculty, staff and students as they host a variety of activities, games, fundraisers, and information about their missions
- Have our caricature artist draw your portrait
- Play a round of Mini Golf
- Take a keepsake photo at the Lion Shrine
- Free Penn State Creamery Ice Cream while it lasts!

The Corner Brothers Live Music
1:00–3:00 p.m. at the Laurel Pavilion
This State College alternative, modern, and folk acoustic rock duo is sure to get your toes tapping and hands clapping! The Corner Brothers aren’t just your typical singing and guitar-playing band. They use other instruments like the tambourine, harmonica, and cajon and encourage audience requests and interaction.
The New Cathedrals: A Brief Presentation on the History of Stadium Construction in North America

This presentation gives an overview of sports construction history in North America, beginning with the construction of very modest ballparks to the more recent multi-billion dollar venues that have been built in the 21st century.

Student Internship Information Session
3:00–3:30 p.m. in the Fireside Lounge of the Slep Student Center
This presentation will focus on the benefits of internships and other forms of community-based learning for students at Penn State Altoona. We will also offer examples of the types of internship experiences former students have had while at Penn State Altoona as well as the resources available to students for finding an internship that is a good fit for them.
Women’s Volleyball Match
3:00 p.m. in the Auxiliary Gymnasium of the Adler Athletic Complex
Cheer on our women’s tennis team as they take on the Pitt Bradford Panthers. Admission is free.
Books and Bites
4:00–5:00 p.m. in the Mountain View Room of the Port-Sky Café
Stop in for some hors d’oeuvres and meet some of our faculty authors. Each student in attendance will receive a book by one of our featured authors, while supplies last. Featuring faculty members Mark McNicholas, Sandy Petrulionis, Jungwoo Ryoo, Sam Tanner and Bob Trumpbour.

Paint Your Own Pottery
6:00–8:00 p.m. in the Pond View Lounge of the Slep Student Center
Hosted by Clay Cup in Altoona, PA
Make sure to sign up at 1:00 p.m. at the Information Desk in the Slep Student Center Central Lounge. Only 90 spots are available. Show us your creative side! We will provide the pottery pieces and paint. You will paint your masterpiece and leave it here. A few weeks from the event we will contact your Penn State Altoona student to pick up your finished product. This is a free event.
9:15 p.m. in the Auxiliary Gymnasium of the Adler Athletic Complex
This event is free and will surely be one of your favorite events of the weekend! Your chance to win one of our great Penn State-themed basket prizes is significantly higher if you attend! Arrive early to guarantee yourself a seat. Don’t be afraid to show up decked out in your favorite Penn State gear. Your Penn State Altoona student must present their Penn State ID in order to claim a prize for any family member.
