Strategic Communications has the capability to take digital photographs with department cameras. The office also works with a number of student freelance photographers who are available to take photos of college-related events. In addition, the office has digital cameras to loan to faculty and staff to take photos when its staff is unavailable.
If the photography request is for a very limited purpose and does not have a broad marketing/public relations purpose, Strategic Communications will either loan a camera to the requesting individual or assign a student freelance photographer for the job. Also, when the photos are being used only on a web site, cell phone photography may be used.
Strategic Communications makes every attempt to take photographs at major campus events, especially when the photos will be used in print publications. Because the office does not have a dedicated staff photographer, there is not guaranteed availability of a staff member to take pictures for each campus event, especially for weekend and evening events. When the photography request is for a weekend or evening, the request must have a broad marketing/public relations purpose and the specific way in which the photos will be utilized must be stated. Student freelancers will be assigned to weekend/evening requests that do not meet this criteria, based upon their availability.
Please submit your photo request at least two weeks prior to the event; Strategic Communications cannot guarantee photography coverage with requests submitted later.
When an event covers more than a 30 minute time frame, please specify what time you would like the photographer to be there to get the best photographic coverage. Photographers are typically assigned for a 20-30 minute timeframe.
