Hosted by the Study Away Committee

A showcase for individuals or groups who have taken part in study abroad or study away undergraduate research or creative activities, internships or clinical work, community based studies, or related work organized through student clubs.

At Registration, we will also be collecting non-perishable food items for the campus food pantry: Ivyside Eats. Popular items include cereal, macaroni and cheese, Chef Boyardee, or other quick meals. Any donations are appreciated.

Penn State Football Game Viewing Party

Hosted by the Blue & White Society

Watch the Nittany Lions take on Illinois. Cheer on our football team with free popcorn and spirit items, while supplies last!

Movie Night: TBD

Come watch a free movie with us and grab some popcorn too! Come as you are or grab your favorite blanket and bunny slippers!

Thoreau Cabin & Sustainability Conversation in Seminar Forest

9:30 a.m. - 10:15 a.m. | Meet at the Laurel Pavilion, Slep Student Center Quad
Hosted by Professor Ian Marshall and Sustainability Project Coordinator Erin Nachtman

Stop by the Thoreau cabin to hear about Henry David Thoreau and why Penn State Altoona created a replica of his cabin, as told by scholar and professor Ian Marshall. Learn about sustainable projects supported on campus and who our community partners are from Sustainability Council member Erin Nachtman.  If you are up for a hike, wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes and bring a bottle of water to check out our beautiful backyard. Please note that the hike is steep so please participate if you feel able to. Free event.

Study Away Information Session

Variety Comedian: John Cassidy!

Get ready for side-splitting comedy as Guinness World Record holder John Cassidy takes the stage for his eclectic and innovative variety show. Come watch this high-energy performance of comedy, magic, and really weird things with balloons! This is something that you will not soon forget!

Student and Family Festival

Noon - 2:00 p.m. | Slep Student Center Quad
Hosted by Student Athletes & Teams

Support our teams, as they offer a variety of games, a chance to use their gear, and fundraiser opportunities! Then, check out the amazing renovations in our Adler gymnasium where tours offer an insider’s look at the facilities. Get the inside scoop on our varsity, intramural, and club sports.

While at the festival, check out the Alumni Obstacle Course that is being hosted by the Alumni Association & the Blue and White Society. Try the obstacle course and get connected to Penn State’s vast network by signing up for the Blue and White Society.

The Student and Organization Market will also be open and hosted by Penn State Altoona Students and Organizations. Support our talented students and organizations as they host tables featuring crafts, activities, and information about their missions!

The Lion Shrine Photobooth will be hosted by Orientation Leaders, so stop by the Lion Shrine to get a free family photo. Keychain prints will be provided, while supplies last!

Family Spirit Bingo

2:00 - 4:00 p.m. | Slep Student Center Quad
Hosted and Sponsored by the Campus Activities Board

This event is free and will surely be one of your favorite events of the weekend! Your chance of winning one of our great prize PSU-themed baskets is significantly higher if you attend! Arrive early to guarantee yourself a seat! Don’t be afraid to show up decked out in your favorite Penn State gear. 

Dinner is on your Own

Feel free to check out Port Sky or local options as suggested by students and staff, including: The Knickerbocker, Bold, Lena’s, Mama Randazzo’s, Al’s Tavern, The Athenian Cafe, Tim’s, and Creamery & Crepes. Check out our flyer at registration for more information on these suggestions!

Paint Your Own Pottery

7:00 - 9:00 p.m. | Pond View Lounge, Slep Student Center
Hosted by Clay Cup in Altoona, PA
Sponsored by the Campus Activities Board

Show us your creative side!  We will provide the pottery pieces and paint. You will paint your masterpiece and leave it here. A few weeks from the event we will contact your Penn State Altoona student to pick up your finished product. Free event. Enter from the bookstore side of the Slep Student Center.

Make sure to sign up at Registration! Only 75 spots are available.

Rail City Improv

9:00 - 10:00 p.m. | Mountain View Room, Port Sky

Come ready to laugh!  Altoona’s finest thespians share with you their own brand of comedy, including Penn State Altoona’s own webmaster, Jonathan O’Harrow. This event is free and family friendly!
