Student Awards

Altoona Collegiate Review Student Excellence Award
Recipients of this award will be selected based on academic merit and a review of writing samples, published photos or a one-page portfolio of their work. Students must have 1 semester of work on the student newspaper.

Altoona Fine Arts Award
This award, sponsored by Ms. Margaret Sheridan, is given to the first year student or sophomore who has demonstrated excellence in all course work, with a minimum 3.5 grade-point average in Fine Arts. The recipient is nominated by members of the art, music, English, speech, and theatre faculty.

John E. Boyd and Bernard G. Monahan Awards
This award shall honor and recognize outstanding achievement by juniors and seniors enrolled in a baccalaureate degree program at Penn State Altoona.

Commission for Women Outstanding Female Award
This award recognizes a female student, enrolled at Penn State Altoona, for her outstanding academic and community service efforts.

Jacob Davidson Memorial Award
This endowed award, established by Jacob Davidson prior to his death in 1989, recognizes a student in the Associate Degree program in Nursing who has a grade-point average of 2.0 or better, has completed Nursing 101, demonstrates financial need, and has served as a volunteer for community agencies.

Excellence in Criminal Justice Award
This award recognizes highly qualified and committed criminal justice majors who are approaching graduation. The award recognizes students who have not only achieved academic excellence but who have made significant contributions to the College, the University, and the community.

Kenneth M. Kuhn Memorial Award for Music
This endowed award, established by Mrs. Shirley Kuhn and friends of Kenneth Kuhn, a former faculty member in visual arts, recognizes a student who is enrolled in music classes and has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement at Penn State Altoona.

Kenneth M. Kuhn Memorial Award for Visual Arts
This endowed award, established by Mrs. Shirley Kuhn and friends of Kenneth Kuhn, recognizes a student who is a visual arts major and has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement at Penn State Altoona.

Liszka Award for English
This award, sponsored by Thomas and Marlene Liszka, recognizes students who were enrolled during the preceding spring, summer, or fall semesters in English (at the 200-level or above, excluding ENGL 202) and were nominated by the faculty member(s) teaching these courses.

Liszka Award for Theatre, Arts, Dance, or Voice
This award, sponsored by Thomas and Marlene Liszka, recognizes students who were enrolled during the preceding spring, summer, or fall semesters in theme arts, dance, or voice (linked to campus theatrical, dance or vocal productions or to related senior projects in Integrative Arts) and were nominated by the faculty member(s) teaching these courses.

General W. A. Morgan Excellence in ROTC Award
This award, sponsored by Ms. Mimi Coppersmith Fredman, is given to two first year ROTC Cadets, one male and one female, who have demonstrated leadership qualities and good character, and have earned a minimum 3.0 grade point average. The recipients are nominated and selected by the ROTC faculty.

Non-Traditional Student Recognition Award
Consideration for this award shall be given to non-traditional undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Altoona who have displayed academic commitment and achievement, demonstrated leadership skills, and triumphed over personal challenges.

Vicky Rogers Memorial Award
Initiated by Vicky Rogers’ family in cooperation with the Altoona Hospital, the Vicky Rogers Award Committee, and the OB/GYN Department of Altoona Hospital, this award is presented to a graduating student from the Associate Degree program in Nursing.

Bud Shuster Achievement Award
This award, sponsored by Crown American Enterprises, recognizes students enrolled in Civil Engineering who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and reside in the United States Ninth Congressional District.

Marshall R. & Barbara Bradley Spayd Memorial Award
Consideration for this award shall be given to non-traditional undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Altoona or University Park, of at least third semester standing, who have exhibited exemplary academic achievement.
