Brandon Arentz Named NEAC Defensive Player of the Week

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - Penn State Altoona men's volleyball's sophomore opposite hitter Brandon Arentz (Mount Wolf, PA/Northeastern) was selected as the North Eastern Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday for his performance last week.

Arentz posted solid defensive efforts for the Lions last week in five matches against some strong non-conference opponents.

In Wednesday night's 3-2 home loss to Thiel College, Arentz had 18 digs. In Saturday afternoon's tough 3-2 loss to #13 Nazareth College at home, the sophomore posted 12 digs, two block assists, and one solo block. Later that day, in a 3-0 defeat against Mount Saint Joseph University, he recorded seven digs and one solo block. Penn State Altoona bounced back with a couple wins on Sunday, with Arentz totaling 13 digs and one block assist in a 3-1 victory over John Jay College and 3-0 triumph against York College (N.Y.).

For the week, Arentz had 50 digs (2.63 digs per set) and five total blocks (0.26 blocks per set), and he also contributed offensively with 36 kills (1.89 kills per set).

This is the first NEAC Player of the Week award earned by Arentz this season. He is an Economics major at Penn State Altoona.

Lions volleyball is 6-3 overall and returns to the court this Wednesday, January 31, when they host non-conference opponent Messiah College for a 7:00 p.m. match in the Adler Arena.
