The Spring 2017 issue of Hard Freight, Penn State Altoona’s online student literary magazine, has been published.

The issue includes poems, short stories, and artworks by current students. A special feature is the story “The Man on the Roof” by Lydia Berry, first place winner of the 2017 Common Read Writing Contest. This semester’s Faculty/Staff Spotlight is a series of photographs by Dr. Laura Palmer, associate professor of biology.

Students interested in serving on the staff of Hard Freight may register for English 209: Journal Practicum, a one-credit experiential course that focuses on editing the magazine. Students may take the course up to eight times.

The deadline for submissions to the Fall 2017 issue is Oct. 17 at midnight. Also on Oct. 17, the fall Hard Freight Café open mic event will be held, featuring a kick-off reading by poet Le Hinton. Look for additional announcements in the fall.
