Penn State Altoona freshman George Stiuso (Milford, New Jersey/Gill St. Bernard’s) has been hot at the plate in the Lions’ last five games. During that span, he is hitting .400 (6-for-15) with three home runs — including a grand slam — one double, 14 runs batted in, and six runs scored.

Men’s golf:

Penn State Altoona 349, Wilson College 470

Lions golf returned to action on Monday, April 17, for the first of two spring dates of competition, defeating Wilson College in a dual meet at Chambersburg Country Club. Sophomore Adam Osborne (Tipton, Pennsylvania/Bellwood-Antis) led Penn State Altoona with a 78, his second-best score of the 2016-17 season.

Penn State Altoona freshman Tao Yang (Emporium, Pennsylvania/Cameron County) went 2-0 in No. 6 singles for the Lions in their previous two matches. With the No. 3 seed in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament, Penn State Altoona will face No. 2 seed Penn State Behrend in a first round tournament match on Saturday, April 22, in Erie.

Men’s volleyball:

Penn State Altoona men’s volleyball won its first-ever North Eastern Athletic Conference championship, defeating SUNY Polytechnic 3-1 in the conference semifinal match on April 14 and then winning 3-1 over Wells in the championship match on April 15. With the NEAC championship, the Lions earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III tournament. Penn State Altoona travels to New York City to face Hunter College in the first round of the NCAA tournament at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 22.

Senior pitcher Kate Burge (Philipsburg, Pennsylvania/Philipsburg-Osceola) was voted the HeroSports.com Pitching Hero of the Week for her one-hit shutout of Hilbert College on Sunday, April 9. In that game, she pitched seven innings and struck out five batters.

Women’s golf:

Penn State Altoona women’s golf freshman Claudia Ochoa (Fairfax, Virginia/Robinson Secondary) returned to action on Monday, April 17, at Chambersburg Country Club, competing in her first event of the spring alongside the men’s golf team. Ochoa shot 105 on the day.
