Men’s basketball:

With nine rebounds in the Lions’ loss at Pitt-Bradford on Jan. 4, senior forward Jordan Smith (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania/Taylor Allderdice) became just the third player in Penn State Altoona men’s basketball history to compile 500 or more rebounds in a career. Smith currently ranks second on the team’s all-time rebounds list with 502 rebounds in his four-year career.

Men’s swimming:

Penn State Altoona 109, Wilkes University 79

In the Lions’ win over Wilkes on Dec. 9, sophomore John Polidoro (Bensalem, Pennsylvania/Holy Ghost Preparatory) posted first-place finishes in the 1000-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle, while freshman David Heckel (Lititz, Pennsylvania/Warwick) notched first place in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard freestyle. Polidoro and Heckel also helped the team win the 800-yard freestyle relay.

Women’s basketball:

Pitt-Bradford 97, Penn State Altoona 58

In her first game of the season for the Lady Lions on Jan. 4 at Pitt-Bradford, freshman guard Paige Burk (Claysburg, Pennsylvania/Claysburg-Kimmel) scored 13 points to go along with five rebounds, four assists, and four steals.

Women’s swimming:

Wilkes University 92, Penn State Altoona 83

Freshman Paetyn Zeamer (Manheim, Pennsylvania/Manheim Central) recorded back-to-back individual first-place finishes in the Lady Lions’ loss to Wilkes on Dec. 9. She won the 200-yard individual medley, then followed that up by placing first in the 100-yard butterfly. She also helped her squad win a relay event, teaming up to help the Lady Lions come in first place in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
