The Penn State Altoona Club Rugby Team first met in October of 2015 in the form of an interest meeting open to all male athletes. After being proposed to the university by first year student Camden Haldeman, the club was officially recognized on February 5th, 2016. Then taking the field for the first time competitively on March 26th of the same year.

The team consists of players with rugby experience and some who are completely new to the game. Penn State Altoona Club Rugby is coached by Andy Haines, who has 30 plus years of rugby experience. Coach Haines also coaches the junior high school rugby team in Hollidaysburg PA.

The Penn State Altoona Rugby Club Team is open to all male athletes who have an interest in learning and playing the sport. The team competes in 15s rugby and plays other collegiate teams in the National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO). The team’s goal is to spread the sport of rugby in central Pennsylvania and in the United States as a game of respect and sportsmanship.
