New Staff Hires

The office of Student Affairs, in conjunction with University Park Global Programs, has announced the following staff have been hired to provide regional support (Altoona and DuBois) for international students: 

Kandy Szymusiak, previously a Pre-Arrival Coordinator, DISSA, University Park, has accepted the position of Global Programs Adviser. Kandy will be assisting international students in areas such as immigration regulations, finances, employment, adjustment to the campus, and maintenance of student status. She will be the SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) updater, and will liaison with offices such as the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Social Security Administration the PA Department of Transportation and various embassies and sponsoring agencies. Kandy began in her new role on November 1, 2017.

Dana Patrick Brem, currently with the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Social and Urban Research and formerly an instructor at the Kanda University of International Studies, Chiba, Japan, has accepted the position of Global Education Coordinator and will begin his duties on November 13. Dana's position will oversee co-curricular programming for international students and will work closely with the Office of Sponsored Programs at University Park. He will be the lead person for the development, implementation and assessment of transition programming (INSO and as students transition to other PSU locations) for our international students. Dana will also provide inter-cultural learning opportunities related to supporting international students in the classroom.

The new staff will be housed in the Student Affairs office area in the Slep Student Center. Please join the office of Student Affairs in welcoming Kandy and Dana to Penn State Altoona.
