Instructions for Android Devices

What is Gmail?

Gmail is an email client that allows one to easily sync their Penn State email to their Android device.

Configuring Penn State Email for Android

  1. Prior to setting up email on your Android device, you must enroll in ITS IMAP Email Service.
  2. Read over the information, then select I accept and understand the conditions for using IMAP service.
  3. Open the Gmail app that came preinstalled on your Android device.
  4. Upon opening Gmail, tap the menu button in the top left-hand corner of the screen, then select Add Account.
  5. Enter your Penn State Email Address, then select NEXT.
  6. Select Personal (IMAP) from the list, then select NEXT.
  7. Enter the information below on the next two screens, then select NEXT.
    Username: PSU User ID
    Server: email.psu.edu
    Port: 993
    Security Type: SSL/TLS
    SMTP Server: authsmtp.psu.edu
    Port: 465
    Security Type: SSL/TLS
    Username: PSU User ID
  8. On the Account Options screen, choose your preferred settings, then select NEXT. It may take a few minutes to receive emails on your device.

Instructions for iOS Devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch)

Note: This service requires an internet connection to your device.

Configuring Penn State Email for iOS

  1. Prior to setting up email on your iOS device, you must enroll in ITS IMAP Email Service.
  2. Read over the information, then select I accept and understand the conditions for using IMAP service. Please note, it may take up to one business day for the application to be received and processed.
  3. On the home screen, open Settings and then Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  4. Select Add Account.
  5. Select Other.
  6. Select Add Mail Account.
  7. Enter your name, Penn State Email Address and Password. Enter PSU for the Description and select Next.
  8. Enter the following information:
    Incoming Mail Server
    Host Name: email.psu.edu
    User Name: Penn State User ID (ex. xyz1234)
    Password: Your Penn State User ID password
    Outgoing Mail Server
    Host Name: authsmtp.psu.edu
    User Name: Penn State User ID (ex. xyz1234)
    Password: Your Penn State User ID password
    Select Save
  9. After selecting save, it may take a few minutes to receive emails on your device.
