SAFE, AWARE, and At-Risk

SAFE, AWARE, and At-Risk

All Penn State Altoona first-year students are required to complete three online educational modules.

SAFE (Student Alcohol Feedback and Education)

This is a one-hour online program that provides information about the psychological effects of alcohol, Penn State alcohol policies and related consequences, and state and local laws related to alcohol consumption. Alcohol is a significant issue in the lives of students on college campuses across the country. There will also be a follow up survey which students will receive additional information on approximately one month following the completion of this module.

AWARE

Penn State AWARE is a relationship and sexual violence awareness learning module. It is a 45-minute program designed to help students learn the facts about relationship violence, sexual violence, stalking, and sexual harassment as well as develop practical skills to help keep you and your friends safe.

Incoming first year students will receive information on SAFE and AWARE on July 14. Students will receive instructions for accessing the programs on July 24. Both modules must be completed by August 21, 2017.

AT RISK

AT RISK for College Students is an online, interactive gatekeeper training simulation designed to prepare students to recognize when a fellow student is exhibiting signs of psychological distress and manage a conversation with the student with the goal of connecting them with the appropriate support service. AT RISK for College Students uses a virtual environment to enhance the learning experience. Users assume the role of a university student and engage in a simulated conversation with a fully animated student who shows signs of depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety and drug abuse. By providing learners with hands-on practice, they become more confident and proficient in handling similar situations in real life.
