Make sure to check in with the Center for Student and Civic Engagement so we can count you as attending and give you all the information you’ll need to make your Family Weekend a success. Family Weekend T-shirts will be available for free, while supplies last!

Sign up for different events to guarantee your ability to participate.

At Registration, we will also be collecting non-perishable food items for the campus food pantry: Ivyside Eats.  Popular items include cereal, macaroni & cheese, Chef Boyardee, or other quick meals. Any donations are appreciated.

Variety Comedian: John Cassidy

9:00 p.m. | Pond View Lounge, Slep Student Center

Get ready for side-splitting comedy as John Cassidy takes the stage for his eclectic and innovative variety show. Come watch this high-energy performance of comedy, magic, and really weird things with balloons! This is something that you will not soon forget!

Movie Night: Beauty and the Beast (2017)

Synopsis: Belle a bright, beautiful and independent young woman, is taken prisoner by a beast in its castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle's enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the beast's hideous exterior, allowing her to recognize the kind heart and soul of the true prince that hides on the inside.

Come watch this tale as old as time as a free movie with us and grab some popcorn too!  Come as you are-- grab your favorite blanket and bunny slippers and get ready to be enchanted!

Thoreau Cabin Conversation in Seminar Forest

9:30 a.m. | Meet at the Laurel Pavilion
Hosted by professor Ian Marshall

Stop by the Thoreau cabin to hear about Henry David Thoreau and why Penn State Altoona created a replica of his cabin, as told by scholar and professor Ian Marshall. If you are up for a hike, wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes and bring a bottle of water to check out our beautiful backyard.  Please note that the hike is steep so please participate if you feel able to. Free event.

Paint Your Own Pottery

10:00 a.m. | Pond View Lounge, Slep Student Center
Hosted by Clay Cup in Altoona, PA

Show us your creative side!  We will provide the pottery pieces and paint.  You will paint your masterpiece and leave it here.  A few weeks from the event we will contact your Penn State Altoona student to pick up your finished product.  Free event. Enter from the bookstore side of the Slep Student Center.

A Walk on the Wild Side

Have you ever seen a plant and wondered what it was, or wondered how to get your plants to grow better?  Take a walk with our groundskeeper to learn about plants and how to be a gardener.  Bring any questions you have about landscaping! Get a free plant as part of this free event.

Enjoy the beauty of our campus while having some fun with your favorite people.  We will have tons of great, free activities for you to participate in:

  • Wrecking Ball & Go Racers Amusement Rides
  • See how high you can go on the In-Line Extreme Air attraction, if you dare!
  • Try out the inflatable obstacle course
  • Play some of your favorite carnival games and tailgating, lawn games
  • Listen to some awesome music by JamPact
  • Get keepsakes of your weekend with both a photo keychain (for free) at the Lion Shrine or a round in the photobooth.
  • Enjoy Penn State Creamery Ice Cream sponsored by the student organization SALT and local churches

Local History Tour: Downtown Walking Tour

11:00 a.m. | Meet at the Railroaders Museum
Hosted by professor Jared Frederick

Led by the professor who wrote the book: Images of Modern America: Altoona, Jared Frederick, this walking tour will begin at the Railroaders Museum (1300 9th Ave, Altoona, PA) and end at the Devorris Center.  Learn Altoona history during this half mile walk! Attendees will receive Frederick’s book for free, while supplies last.  Free parking at the Railroaders Museum or Station Medical.  Free event. Make sure to sign up at Registration!
